The Diamond DA42 is the most technologically-advanced twin-engine piston general aviation aircraft in production. Brand new, this particular aircraft is the new higher-performance DA42-VI “dash 6″ version of Diamond Aircraft’s carbon fiber composite twin, delivered June 2013. The DA42-VI utilizes twin Mercedes automotive 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engines that combined burn only 10-12 gallons/hour of JetA fuel, making it one of the few piston aircraft with computer-controlled FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) engines. The aircraft includes the Garmin G1000 “glass cockpit” with synthetic vision and integrated autopilot/yaw damper, FIKI-certified TKS “weeping wing” de-icing, auxiliary fuel tanks, air conditioning, and a built-in oxygen system for all 4 passengers.
This particular plane is the first and only DA42-VI in North America, flown by its owner across the Atlantic from Diamond’s Austrian factory last month via Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, and Canada. It will also be on display at the Diamond Aircraft exhibit at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI in July.
