    The first Canadian designed DHC1 flew in Toronto, Canada on 22 May 1946. A total of 200 aircraft were built in Canada as primary trainers and a further 1000 were built in Hatfield, UK by the parent De Havilland Co. Several foreign air forces operated the Chipmunk and a batch were purchased by the Portuguese Air Force. After evaluation, the Portuguese government decided to build a further 66 examples under license at the government aircraft establishment, OGMA . N46TR is serial number 1320, the tenth aircraft built in the first batch in 1955. She was struck off charge by the PoAF in 1975 and in 1977 was purchased and shipped to a buyer in Atlanta, GA. She has had several owners since then and is currently based at Culpeper Regional Airport, VA and is painted in the C scheme that she wore when in service with the Elementary Flight Training School in Portugal.
